Following on from the first session of Characters Between The Sheets, Ryan’s second session mainly focused on shapes and how they influence a character and their personality. The first exercise of the session revolved around this as he had asked us in the first session to design a character based on a description alone and how two specific shapes would affect the overall outcome.

A character based on one of the four descriptions.

We were then tasked with describing ourselves and attempting self-portraits based only on the written description and using two shapes in order to keep it from being overly complicated.

Mainly consisting of circles and triangles, my self portrait from the session.

The next task that was set was to design a hero or a villain predominantly with two shapes during a set amount of time. I had chosen to go with a villain as it would be fun to experiment with such a broad brief.

Mama Vivienne – A food heiress with a hunger for crime.

For Vivienne’s design, I had originally thought of using squares and triangles but thought the use of circles alongside the triangles would add a subtle softness to her all the while the angular features would be amplified, giving her a classic villainous look.
